Decided to get chickens for eggs. Planned to have just a few to provide eggs for my wife and me. Then decided to add enough for grandchildren who live a few miles away. Then for some cousins and a favorite neighbor. So, I ended up getting 18 chicks.

Should tell you my parents had chickens when I was a kid, so I have some familiarity, but I'm 68 years old. I have a lot of relearning to do.

Got the chicks in February and kept them in a 3' x 8' brooder box until yesterday. I have a small run, but am going to build them a large run. My wife gave me a chicken coup w/run for Christmas! Thinking of getting a larger building for them, too.

All 18 ladies are doing great. Looking forward to fresh home-grown eggs! Hard to not spend all my time just watching them! 😉

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
What breed(s) did you get?
Eighteen LF chickens need a coop about 72 square feet. I'd go with an 8x10 building just to make sure they have plenty of room.
Good luck designing and building your overdue coop!
