I have an old English game bantam who is about 4 months old and she is making a weird squawking-like noise which she has not made before. None of the other old English game bantam chicks are making that noise. I thought she might be at the time of laying an egg or she might just be hot (I did give them more water and shade). Does anyone know why she is doing this?

Have you heard any of your other chickens making that noise? (other ages, other genders?)

If it's a noise usually made by adult hens, then your pullet is just growing up. Some chickens grow up faster than others.

Adult hens make many different noises. A chick who is growing up may start making one sound at one age, and another sound at a different age.

My older hen who is about a year old makes kind of the same noise when she is running about and when she is going to lay an egg.
