old hatch done, grrr none developed new eggs in today!

Well I had 13 EE in the bator, NONE developed. What in the heck went wrong there? The guy who sold them to me said his hatch rate was 85%, mine was 0 a big fat 0. grrrrr

Well I got some black astralorps in the mail yesterday morning. I unwrapped them and let them sit out and just put them in the bator today around noon! I SOOOOO am crossing my fingers something happens this time around! My R-com only holds 18 chicken eggs in the universal tray. I know I need to get the chicken tray that holds 20.

I am getting the tray that holds 10 goose eggs!

So sorry to hear about your hatch. Geesh, that is enough to make you cry..... How were your temps and humidity?

Here's hoping this goes way better than the last group. It sounds like they got Xray'd or something. I'm sure these will be just fine.

So sorry about your hatch. Shipped eggs are so risky. Do you have any of your own to set with these,just to make sure everything is o.k. on your end? I'm getting 24 eggs in about a month. I hope they do well. I'm doing a test hatch on my eggs before they get here.

My temps and humidity were perfect! 99.5 and 45% humidity. (Well according to my R-Com 20 user manual that is what the temps and humidity should be. It said humidity between 40-50% so I went down the middle) I tested at various times and always it said they were stable.

and no I don't have any of my own eggs to test. Unfortunately last year a fox got into my cage and so I am starting over with a new coop and some new chickens....got my chickens and ducks (

Gee that really stinks when you have waited that long and there is nothing. Did that two batches in a row

You didn't mention how you knew they didn't grow. Did you candle or do a break open analysis on the eggs? Have you compared your temp gauge to something else? As most of us know, one gauge is not always reliable, even tho it says it's the right temp. I've lost entire hatches from a temp gauge being off by 6 degrees (even tho it said 99.5). Hope your next hatch goes better too.

I used 3 different temp gages, all were saying the same temp with in .5 degrees, same with the humidity all read 44-45 percent. I used 3 different brands of thermometers and hygrometers too! I let my bator run a week before even putting the eggs in it.

I cracked the eggs open, I had to know. No embryo development. Last year on the 5-6 loads i hatched, I had a prett good hatch rate, so not sure what the deal is. They were all shipped eggs too!

Well, then that sounds like either the eggs were no good or they could have been damaged in shipping.

I had to ask because I've heard of people waiting until day 21 for them to hatch and when they didn't hatch on that day, they'd throw them out without ever candling or opening to see if growth occured. Just wanted to make sure you checked to make sure. Sounds like you did everything right. Sorry it didn't turn out well.

I'm sorry that happened to you! We had the same bad luck twice last year. We put purchased, shipped eggs in with our own eggs to fill up the incubator, and had zero fertility on the shipped eggs while our own hatched reasonably well. The eggs were from different breeders, too. We purchased some eggs from a more local breeder, and drove an hour to pick them up...They also hatched pretty well. All 3 breeders were reputable people and their eggs arrived well packaged and safe; I can only believe that something bad happened to them between the breeder's house and mine. Darned post office! I'm going to try one more time before I give it up...Third time's the charm?

Thanks for the encouragement! I bought 5-6 bator loads of shipped eggs last year. Chickens and geese eggs. I did have a couple of my own duck eggs too. Had great luck! I was still happy to get 5-6 hatch out of a dozen, heck i'd be happy if ONE hatched. But no such luck, sighhhhhh.

Well have some shipped black australorps in there now, so we shall see. In three weeks I have the gold sex link eggs coming (RIR roo bred with a RIW hen.)
