Old lady new to chickens

I am a 71 year old nursing instructor at the local college and just started my rural life about four years ago.

I’ve been raising my chickens for almost 2 years; I have one rooster and nine hens they are Sussex, Iowa blue, Orpington, and Plymouth Rock. I have one americauna hen, my Taffy. I have nine hens, and one rooster that I acquired three months ago .he’s the Wyandotte he’s quite beautiful, but he’s young and a bit, you’ll excuse me horny. especially does not leave my poor americana alone since last night she’s got all the outward signs of the way she walks and moves and doesn’t interact as if she’s egg bound but I don’t feel anything right now I have her in a warm Epson salt bath and she is just sitting quietly. I have
her isolated and put some food and water within her reach. She did eat some this morning. I did witness that and she has had defecation, but as I say, I don’t feel an egg, she is a bit older, as I am not sure of what her age was when I got her two years ago. Could this new rooster activity just stressing her?

Sorry about your hen, it is possible the rooster is stressing her, could you possibly introduce a few more hens? Or separate him out for a few days and see if she starts acting better.

If you can, check her whole body over for bugs, wounds, or anything out of the ordinary.

I'm thinking that what @GracePoultry wrote, maybe separate the cockerel/roo, instead of her, once you know that she is okay.

In addition to the warm soaks I would give her calcium citrate tablets, 630mg total a day, in case she is having a hard time pushing something out. It helps with contractions. Good luck with your hen.

I think that if you have Tums/generic, that would work to get the calcium in her today.

Welcome to BYC. I too would remove the rooster for a while.
If you can cage him inside the coop and run with the hens, he will learn to coax the girls, rather than to chase them down and force them. Good luck!
