Hello chicken eggsperts!
I am a work-from-home mom of an almost 3 year old who decided she wanted chickens last summer for her second birthday. So, we're bringing the farm back to life.
She picked 5 roosters & 5 hens (Rhode Island Reds). We kept the biggest (& most friendly) rooster, Big Red.
We lost some of our girls (we free-range) to critters and one walked on thin ice on the pond this fall and fell through
.
It has been a learning experience.
We adopted 9 new girls (3 Buff Orpington, 3 Black Australorp, 3 Americaunas) from a man who said they were 2 years old in January. We lost one of the Buff girls (she got stuck and subsequently eaten).
We just ordered 25 Easter Egg chicks (& have 26), who hatched on April 10th.
I'm sure we'll have plenty of questions and we appreciate your feedback.
