Old Playhouse Rennovation

Be sure to take those upper windows out and replace them with hardware cloth and top-hinged covers to protect against rain.

This is the best possible ventilation. :)
The windows are big holes, and I had already wood glued them in place before I posted.. there is chicken wire behind it for now. I will be updating all to hardware cloth eventually, but for now I'm working with what I had..

Pepper approves even while we're in the middle of working on it.

It's nearly there! I'll leave the rest of the pictures as thumbnails so it doesn't take forever to load..
The nesting box is attached, there are coverings over the windows, probably will need a little more work still.. Roosting bars are in place, ramps to get from one area to another.
Just have to glue down the Linoleum floor, place the coop door with the little picnic table access, move it into place and attach it to the run! With those few odds and ends as we finish up of course.

So this project should be done and attached to the run, hopefully after work today! My question is, the coop they sleep in now is inside the run, I was thinking about leaving it in there so the birds can scope out the new home and move in on their own time... or idk if I should remove the old coop from the run so they have no choice? The old coop is pretty cramped, so I think they're going to take to their new space quite well..

I'll defer to what others suggest. But my thought would be just go cold turkey. Two reasons: 1) Single stress event 2) immediate progress from cramped conditions.

If you go in stages, there's the stress event of the scary new thing in the run. Then, the stress of moving into it.

The final product! I'll eventually figure out a way to add a little more ventilation through the roof probably.. but they're all moved in. Yesterday 3 out of 4 layed in their new nests, today all 4! Now the littles just need to figure it out and start up! :wee

Isn't it a great feeling when you stand back and take it all in? Great work and mighty fast if ya ask me.
It sure is! Thank you! My smaller coop was pretty cramped for them. Every night locking them in I felt so bad, I didn't feel like I could move fast enough! But it came together awesome and they're taking to it really well. Here they were sleeping last night :love
