four years ago I bought 7 pullets "just for our own eggs"..

I now have 28 royal palm turkeys

55 laying hens/2roosters

16 guinea hens/roosters

a pair and a trio of chocolate muscovy ducks..

and I whittles my flock of geese from 12 down to 3.. a pair and an odd gander..

I also have 12 incubators of assorted sizes from 40 egg, 2 sportsmans (200 egg) and 3 jamesway 2940 (2940 egg each)
I only have 1 jamesway rewired and running, though..(I have never had more that 150 eggs in it)..

BUT the point being,, If you have the same will power I have, you are doomed..

Oh yes, I also built 2 whizbang pluckers and a 126 egg incubator..

and I also have 2 drum type pluckers..

I have 3 chicken/poultry coops and
4 poultry yars fenced in. (about an acre's worth

Welcome from Florida. As far as breeds go, My vote goes for the Rhode Island Red. They are strong chickens and good layers.
