I have chicks that are 3 weeks (12 Ameraucanas/2 Blue Marans), 2 1/2 weeks (2 BCM/1 Wheaten), 2 weeks(12 BCM), and 1 1/2 weeks (16 Delaware x New Hamshires). They are all in an 8ft x 3ft brooder and I have noticed that the older chicks are trying to fly. They land on the other birds, causing them to squalk. Are they establishing pecking order?..or just playing? It just seems that they are getting more aggressive and with their nails growing out, I am worried that they will scratch the littler chicks backs. But most of the time, everyone gets along...this is mostly when they are flying. Any thoughts? Should I separate them?
