I have a production red girl(a supposedly non-broody breed) that decided after a year and a half she suddenly wants to go broody. >_<

Is it normal for an older, "non-broody" hen to up and go broody all of the sudden?

I don't know if it makes a difference, but my bantam girls are starting to go broody. Did their going broody perhaps play a part in the red girl going broody too? Broody hormones are in the air! lol

Any of the supposedly non-broody breeds can go broody. They should say "less likely to go broody," but I guess that's too much of a mouthful. Some people feel that broodiness can be "contagious." It's caused by hormones, but I suppose one's hormones could be influenced by others'. In the end, who knowS why they do what they do in those little chicKen brains, lol?!
