Hi!
big_smile.png
I have 5 mature hens that are laying right now but i'm planning on getting some more pullets, however the pullets I'm getting will be 14 weeks old. They will be fairly young, I'm worried about the rooster that I have and his attempt to mate with them.. Should I worry or will the rooster "sense" the young age of the pullets...

Sorry for this silly question and if I worded anything rather funny but I'm a somewhat new chicken owner and could use some help!

Not sure to be honest.
My rooster Lester pretty much ignores the young ones in the flock as he has 7 ladies to keep him busy.

from my experience I would be more worried about the older hens beating them up than I would be him hurting them.

Some roosters will fight new individuals, even hens or pullets, but I think your biggest problems will come from the adult hens in the flock. Until the pecking order is resolved monitor your birds closely.

I've never had an older rooster attack as younger hen. Older hens and younger hens are the ones I worry about getting along.
