Hey, all. I have four chickens, a RIR and three EE. We are looking to add a newbie to our flock and I can't decide which breed. I love different egg colors, but have three small children and two dogs so I need something that will be friendly more importantly, which I think I'd get out of these three. Any thoughts on production, general temperament and ability to fall in to the pecking order? Thanks!!

Since you have EE that probably lay shades of green, I'd go with either the Barnie or Marans for the darker egg. If you've both available locally, I'd not get set on a particular breed but go on the individual bird, and the parent's egg shades.

I agree. In my personal opinion the chocolate eggs of the Marans and Barnevelders are the prettiest eggs in the chicken world.
