Hi all,
This is my first post here and I would appreciate your help and opinions!

My chicks are 8 weeks old and are:
- 3 marans (they come from a professional breeder and were sexed. They are the two brown ones and the blurry one at the back left with the completely black head from the group photo behind the fence).
- 3 supposed Olive eggers. They came from a hobby breeder who had quite a few chicks of different breeds and species all held together. If I managed to select the correct chicks, then they are supposedly from a male Black Copper Marans and a female Cream Legbar.
They were 1 week old at the time and were all mostly black chicks with no white spots om their heads.

However, at this point in time their combs appear a bit bigger, at least with two of the three olive eggers, in comparison to the Marans. Those 2 also have a slight red glow to the combs whereas the others are still mostly yellow.
The feathers of all chicks appear to be more rounded than pointed but at this stage I just don't know what to make of them.
Any thoughts?

I’m a bit suspicious of the ones in pictures 5-7. They look like they’re getting in silvery feathers on their necks, which could be male-specific feathering. Those combs aren’t very big yet, but like I said, I’m suspicious of those feathers.

None of the combs are bright red. They all look to be pullets.
Thanks! I do hope you are right.
There are no huge differences between them and the Marans who are - give or take a few days - the same age and are supposed to be definitely female. But anything can still happen since they're only 8 weeks.
However, I've seen some pics on BYC of 5 week olds with large red combs and could definitely tell they were cockerels, so I am still hopeful that my little ones are female until proven otherwise 😉

Will keep an eye on this. One of the three supposed Olive Eggers is developing brown feathers on her neck, much like a black copper Marans (the father was a BCM). The other two do indeed have some silver/greyish feathers on their necks. I'm curious to see how this develops!
