I have 4 backyard hens. 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Buff Orps. They free range all day, and obtain most of their food from the lawn and landscaping. They have free access to pellets and plenty of treats. They pellets don't get eaten much in the summer. Mostly they enjoy eating the grass, snails and worms.

1 of the BRs is the low bird on the totem pole. She gets bullied a bit. She is missing some feathers, and spends her enery avoiding offending the other hens. They don't hurt her, but make a point of letting her know that she is in last place. They treat her like she has cooties. She is also the smallest and thinest of the birds. Generally her health is good. She is alert and energetic, but I don't feel she is thriving.

I am considering re-homing her. However, I'm concerned that she will run into the same situation in another place, or be lonely as an only hen.

Does anyone have experience with a situation like this?
Your insight is appreciated.
