Looks like a Black-Necked Garter Snake.

(I happen to be looking through the snake book for the snake I just say in the chicken yard.)

I didn't know they came so small!!!

OK, snake book doesn't show black-necked garter snake in Tennessee. Are they wrong, or am I wrong? My second guess is man-squishing anaconda.

I know absolutely nothing about snakes. I dubbed it a baby king snake, LOL. It's the only one close to that I've seen around here, other than black snakes.

Definitely a garter, there are too many subspecies and color mutations within subspecies to tell at a glance just who he is.
Also, as a snake lover, I should add that he is FREAKING ADORABLE
