I kept hearing this strange sound, couldn't figure out what it was, so went downstairs, sure enough, my only Easter Egger, who I have been wondering about the past few days.....(at least I think that was who did it, I think I may have 2 roos, my bantam cochin and now my easter egger.) So bummed, wanted colored eggs! And 'she' is my fav, has been from the getgo, but cannot do roos here, so will have to go to my friends place.....wwwwaaaahhhhhhhh.

It is such a funny noise when they first start crowing. I can remember when my sebright first did it. It caught me off guard and sounded almost like he was screaming. It begins to sound more normal after some practice.
Sorry to hear it is your Easter Egger. Make sure it is, because I have made that mistake before.

Good Luck!

Yes, sounds like someone is screaming! lol So, just took these pics, so is this a Crystal or a Chris??? lol They are 9 weeks old.

bump...can anyone tell me, does this EE look like a boy to you? (She/he is 9 weeks old. And if not, do hens ever make a weird noise that sounds like a roo????)

Hm. This is my first year having chicks so I don't have a ton of knowledge when it comes to sexing but I had a questionable EE myself so put a lot of time into researching sexing tips. To me your pictures look like a pullet based on the coloring of the feathers and the comb having no pink/redness. Can't help explain the "crowing" to me that screams roo- are you positive it was this one that made the sound?

For a LOT more info and help sexing EE's check out this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/463817/easter-egger-sexing-tips-and-tricks-pictures-included It was SUPER informative and helpful to me.

lol...I ended up posting in there and was told it def. is a roo! Yes, def. was that bird making the sound and the girl I got them from said it is def. a boy, too (she said she had wondered from some other pics I had sent her.) I love this bird and I hate I cannot keep a roo (but the noise just won't fly, as I rent and my landlord lives right next door! lol) A friend will take him (and my bantam cochin who also turned out to be a male). Thank you.

My friend who lives down the road is taking both my roos, so I can still see them, but I am very sad about it still. 'She' and Emmy (my bantam cochin, who also turned out to be a boy) were my favs, its pretty crazy. The cochin was a straight run, but the EE's were not (and this is the only one that survived, they had a problem with two deliveries and lost more then 50% of each delivery.) They are getting more babies on Friday, but by the time that one will be old enough (8 weeks) to go outside, these guys will be about starting to lay, so don't know if that would work out. I really wanted an EE hen, though. thank you.

I just had to find a home for my Silver Laced Wyandot named "Marilyn". I thought I heard a tiny short rattily crow, sort of when the chicks were just a week old. Well, sure enough, my Marilyn is now Merlin! He was already causing so much trouble with the other chicks that he left for a happy new home two days ago. I now have five hens left. These birds are all just 8 weeks now. What a punk! I so wanted 6 hens. Oh well, given I hand picked these from straight run, 1 in 6 isn't to bad. Sorry you didn't get the hen you were hoping for.
