One at a time I will get them!

I have had 6 coons on my back deck the entire spring and summer. They come on the deck around 9 pm every couple of days. I keep my chickens in a 10x20 dog kennel that has wire buried under the entire run and also across the entire top. We also lock them in their coop at night as an extra precaution. But these coons keep coming around so I waged a war on them. Got one last week with the 22. But I can't spend the whole night waiting for them so I borrowed a box trap from my brother. well long story short I set it last night for the first time and guess what I found in the morning.

I figured it is better for me to take a proactive stance rather than a reactive one. 2 down and the rest will join them soon

Great job, I waged war on the coons as well. I have never had issues with coons until I got chickens, they got into my garbage, eating the chicken food through the fencing, knocking over my potted plants and terrorizing my chickens.

I caught 4 in the live trap and all are taking dirt naps now.

They are cute but I can't let that fool me. I have seen first hand how nasty and vicious they are. And it is going to be them that go... not my chickens. Good luck to every one else who fights the same war as I am.

sure they are cute until they eat an entire clutch of turkey eggs from under the momma and pull out my tom turk's tail!

that coon aint so darn cute now with the slug between the eyes and buried deep.

The rationale I use for all the raccoons is that no matter how many I "harvest", whether in my yard or while I'm afield, I will never come close to putting a dent in the population around my area. I've taken an entire family out one spring evening at my deer feeder. Seven total. The next night there were three more right back at it. The other reason I do my best to at least reduce their numbers is the havoc they wreak on wild game bird nests and young. As long as you're humanely taking them out, take as many as you can.
