One of our layers always layed smaller eggs with speckles on them, even though she was the same breed as our others the eggs were smaller and different. I didn't think too much of it and then she stopped laying for a about a week and when she layed again the egg was about 1/2 or 1/3 the size of her usual eggs. A few days later she layed an even smaller egg, maybe the size of a robin's egg. Three days later she was dead. I never noticed anything wrong with her, she was always out and about eating and drinking as normal.
I occasionally put apple cider vinegar in their water to help with various issues so I really don't know what it could be. I did notice worms a few months ago and treated with ivermectin even though there were mixed reviews on whether it is effective. Any thoughts on what they may have?

Really, about the only way to know exactly what she had going on would be to keep her body cold but not frozen, and send it in to your nearest poultry lab for a necropsy. You may take it in on Monday, or ship it overnight via UPS or Fedex. What province are you in?

She may have have some sort of reproductive problem. It can be common for hens to sometimes lay tiny “wind” or “fart” eggs. But it is unusual for one to die afterward. Sorry your for your loss.
