If this has already been posted, forgive me. I always have trouble sorting/searching through all the old posts.

I have a sister across the country from me who has lots of land with chickens, peafowl, ducks and guineas.

I have a small surburban place in which I have had a small flock of chickens off and on. Currently, I have 6 chicks (4 weeks old). Because I seem to have a huge ant problem on my property, my sister recommended getting 1 young guinea fowl and just basically keep it right along with my chickens.

I was curious as to what others might say about this.

Thanks!

I have a guinea (love her) she lives with 9 hens and a roo. She fits in great! She is an awesome watch dog lol! She keeps my garden clean from insects. I would love to get a few more.

Notice what Melanie said? Her, she. If its a female all should be quiet. Add a lone male and things could go wacky when you least expect it.

I'm interested in this thread. Would they help keep hawks away? Or are they just good for ant problems? My MIL thought about getting a Quinea to put with her ducks, would that work out ok too?

No, they will not help with hawks. I've watched twice this Spring as a hawk swooped down to grab one of my Guineas. The first time they never saw it, the second they did. Neither time did the hawk grab a bird, probably because I walked around the corner just in time.

i have guineas, chickens, and a pair of peafowl and i still have a pretty bad ant problem
i know that they eat ticks and lots of other bugs just never seen them eat ants
