One hen bullying new pullets

We have 4 one-yr-old hens. We're currently integrating 7 12-week-old pullets.

We raised the new chicks separately and then introduced them slowly. We started with putting them outside in a separate enclosure during the days where they could all see each other. After a week, we'd let them out for a little while each day, supervised.

One of the hens is very mean to the chicks. When they were in the separate enclosure outside, she'd go up to the chicken wire and fluff up her feathers like she was trying to intimidate them. When we started letting them interact, she'd chase after them and go after their necks.

We've now separated the hen that is bullying and we've moved the chicks into the coop with the other three hens. We're keeping them in the coop/run 24/7 for a few days and they all seem to be getting comfortable. There is an occasional kerfuffle in that group, but nothing serious.

We've tried reintroducing the bully hen at night, but she keeps going after them as soon as they're up in the morning. Then we pull her back out to the separate enclosure.

What else can we do? I'd hate to have to get rid of the bully, but that will be our last resort plan.

On another note, the chicks always try to stay in the run at night. Any suggestions on getting them to go up and roost at night?

You may have to manually lift them up on the roost. I had some traumatized incubated eggs/birds that hatched back in February. They were kept in a horse stall with baby ducks due to lack of space. Ten survived. I also had an established group of 10 laying hens with one rooster. Then my daughter got the bright idea of getting more chicks from Tractor from the open run. It is crazy down there now because out of the 22 tractor birds she got at least ten are roosters. Nobody wants them. I had to order chicken saddles for some of my girls getting beat up by these roosters. I need some major help. What can I do with these roosters? They fight each other, especially at dusk. But for you (my trauma birds would not roost and just stayed huddled together) Placing each bird carefully on the roosting bars a couple nights in a row did the trick!!!And I keep those dang roosters out of their house.

They look hard to put on. And a bit crazy. Are your birds pecking at each others eyes? I have a hat that says chaos coordinator. LOL
They look like some sort of old-school motorcycle goggles to me! I don't think that they're meant to protect the wearer's eyes. They're meant to keep the wearer from noticing other chickens that they bully. I suppose that they are a bit like the blinders that many racehorses wear to minimize distraction from seeing horses to either side.

Fortunately, I haven't had this problem (yet.) My tiny flock of 3 21-week-old pullets were hatchmates and get along great.

We'll see what happens when two new pullets show up next month...

Had never heard of them. If I put them on these crazy roosters will there be less chaos? I've got chicken mania going on right now. And if my daughter will not deal with this situation soon (who bought the open run birds) I'm going to go nuts. I had a nice peaceful flock. Now this insanity. 10-12 roosters is total insanity.

Ha ha, motorcycle glasses! Well I need about ten pairs for these roosters.

I think that we need pinless peepers to put on family members when they go to Tractor Supply.

You're a very patient mom! In your place, my daughter would be learning how to design and build her own coop and run for her chicks.

(Someone else will need to address your rooster question)
