We found one hen dead yesterday morning she was fine day and night before and dead in corner of run under roost next morning. We assumed she fell and broke her neck somehow. Now we have another hen acting strange. Very lethargic head shaking very pale wattle and comb and just not acting herself. They just went To bed I hope she lives through the night. What could I be doing for her? These are my first chickens. They are 13 months or so. I did just change feed a week ago. They all have been laying. Poo is normal. It was hot today but there was plenty of clean water. We did clean the run roosts and coop with vinegar today.

it is possible that they are having heart problems, for some reason at around 12 ish months they sometimes look fine then fall down dead and no one seems to know why. have you checked for lice? and wormed them? if not it could be a good idea. upping the protein in their feed could also be a good idea, it may help them fight it off if its some sort of infection

I already use brewers yeast in their wet feed. It has garlic and a little DE. Wouldn't this prevent worms? I am going to give them some cayenne pepper too with the next feeding. But so far the rest of my hens seem to be doing a little better. :D

to my knowledge no, for worming its best to use actual poultry worming things, leave the de to the mites, ( a mix of pestine and de is what we use for lice) . well that's good then, tho I doubt the pepper will do them any good or any harm
