Let me lay some background:
I have a flock of 10. 3 are all my older hens (around 2 years old) 1 stays broody all the time but she’s the smallest one I have and she’s a Brahma. The other 2 are an Americana and an ISO brown. The new ones are 4 golden lacewings, 2 Delaware, and 1 leghorn. All of these are 18 weeks old. We have a 32’X16’ fully enclosed (with bird netting) chicken run with 2 standard coops from TC. Most days all but 1 are in the same coop at night but that changes occasionally and I’ll have a few that bunk with the broody. Well, I thought they were all getting along grandly but yesterday after I threw their veggies I was sitting among them and noticed that the Leghorn’s comb had dried blood at the base in the front. I sat and watched them for a while and nobody was aggressive even while eating. The Broody Brahma chases some of them away when I get her out of the nesting box but never attacks them. Just fluffs her feathers and they run. I initially thought it might be because none of the others have a comb but my ISO a town has a large comb and no issues (but she is one of the older ones).
So last night she happened to be the only one that bunked with Kicky (the Broody Brahma). So this morning I took the Broody Brahma out of that coop and left the Leghorn locked in. The others will just have to bunk together for now. But my question is, how do I determine WHO is the one doing the pecking? I have never seen them peck each other. I want to leave the leghorn isolated in the chicken run until the comb heals completely but is there a way to determine who is pecking and if not, how do I handle it? The middle couple pics are of the the leghorn and her comb. The first is the ISO Brown with her pretty comb and the last one is of them just hanging together peacefully.
