Always surprises me that three ducks, who sleep in opposite corners of the duck house, no matter how cold it is out (methinks the group together would be warmer - but I don't have down feathers!), will use the same nest to lay their eggs. They don't want to be near each other any other time. I watched them the other day (duck cam), taking turns sitting on the nest. The "mother" duck, who spends most of her time on the nest when she is in the house, gets up and one of the other two takes over immediately, but when she comes back, they relinquish the nest immediately...except for when it is their turn to lay, then she gets out of their way. Pretty amazing to watch...like a coordinated dance or something!
