It's amazing how much these birds change in one short month!
Here is Rocky on adoption day, one month ago:
And here is Rocky now (with my younger DS):
Rhody (the alpha pullet) on adoption day:
And Rhody now (showing off her impressive wings):
Racket (the "allegedly Aracauna" EE) on adoption day:
And Racket now (with my older DS):
The three Amigas:
And finally DH last weekend, starting the coop. We hope it will be done by tomorrow evening. All that's left to do is finish putting up the mesh on the "downstairs," finish sheathing the upstairs (and put in the nesting box access door, put in the roost, and attach the roof. One side of the coop features a lifting roof panel for access to clean, and a lifting "downstairs" panel to let the girls out when we're around to watch them. We have finished the handles and the ladder, etc. Still trying to decide whether to leave the cedar bare, stain it, or paint it... The girls will be in there within a couple of weeks (with the heat lamp), so that they will be used to the new digs before we go away for Thanksgiving week (the chicken babysitter will find this a lot easier than the "in between" housing they're in now).
