I don't know if I can expect the other "late" eggs to hatch. I had one Blue Orpington chick hatch out of my second clutch of 9 eggs. Technically, I think they're supposed to hatch out tomorrow, but I'm looking at the eggs with some disappointment. Lots were unfertilized and many were quitters, methinks. I'd like at least another FBCM to hatch, but maybe that's too much to ask.
So, that's 4 live chicks out of 20 eggs.
I know other people have had better luck with shipped eggs, but these came from across the country. I'll wait and see if any of the others hatch, but I'm not seeing anything that suggests they will.
Still, I've gotten the incubator bug. I figure I'll start incubating in the spring because in a month or so, the weather can be too unpredictable for chicks. I'm pushing it now having a hatch early September, but as long as the weather doesn't turn nasty, I figure I have a good couple of months at least for them to grow up before they have to deal with the cold. The real nasty cold generally doesn't happen until December and by then, I hope to have water heaters installed.
