One of my chickens seems to be laying from the roost

I am having a hard time figuring out which chicken it is, but one of my girls seems to be dropping an egg from the roost. This chicken doesn’t seem to lay everyday, or maybe she just isn’t realizing where to lay. I don’t think she’s nesting under the roost because sometimes the egg is cracked on the end where it made impact. They tend to scratch the hay away sometimes so it’s not always fluffy under the roost.

How old are your birds and how long have they been laying?
What do your nests look like?

This is they’re first season to lay so they’ve only been laying since July 5th. Literally got my first egg after the fireworks! We built a nice raised nesting box and they all use it but I occasionally get what appears to be a sharted egg under the roost. It doesn’t happen everyday so I think she’s getting used to what’s happening.

Just one nest....for how many birds?

Most likely....it can take up to a month or so for things to smooth out.

Oh no, there are 3 nesting boxes and we have 9 birds. It’s working out well but they all want to use the same nest. It’s a corner box. Guess I need to build the sides up higher on the center one.

Try to make them all about the same.
Put a fake egg in each nest to help spread the love.
