One of the eggs in my Homemade Incubator starting hatching this morning, now Im not sure what to do. I should be more prepared but It was a project with my daughter and really didn't expect them to hatch. The chick started breaking out of its egg this morning and now almost 12 hours later doesn't seem likes its made much progress but still moving and peeping. Ive read that Im not suppose to help the chick is there anything I should do? and also once its out of the shell do I put it in the brooder immediately?

If the chick isn't out after 24 hours, you should try and help it. After it hatches you should wait till it dries before taking it out of the incubator.

No-Do not help chicks hatch unless its absoutely needed. To many dangers.

Some chicks take over 48 hours to hatch, so don't worry..Set back and watch her

hatch. keep the lid to the incubator closed. Once she is Totally and completely

dry, you can put her in the brooder. Just hope aleast one more hatches to keep her

company. If not- You will have a loud, bored & lonely handfull of chick.

Good luck

Well the first one is still working at it24 hours later, i have another two starting to Hatch as well.

Question: I was using an egg carton with holes cut in the bottom to keep the eggs in position, should I remove that to allow the chicks to break out eaier?

Wow good luck! I keep hearing what a poor hatch rate incubators have- but look at your results! Just goes to show that sometimes you have success when you least expect it. Good luck! Post a picture once the little fuzzy guys have made it out. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

your chicks are wrapped. Be patient with them try to raise the humidity a bit if you can without opening bator. and as long as you see movment Just wait it out when day 3 is here assist the chicks out that didnt finish. I will subscribe to this thread and When that time is here I will walk you threw the proper method of rescuing wrapped chicks. oh yea and never set eggs point up in bator looks like a few are point end up always put smaller end down.

thanks for the info! so should I rotate the ones that aren't in correct position?

I am gonna advise you just to learn from your mistakes do more reasearch on hatching eggs before you place any more eggs down. As for now let things be as is abd hope for the best handling the eggs can be worse then just letting them go.
Do please remember these. Are living breathing animals and you really study and learn everything you can before you place lives in your hands not trying to be harsh if you have any questions feel free to pm me or contact me at [email protected]

Ok I relized I made some mistakes andYes didn't do the right thing by not learning more on what to do after chickens PIP. Most of my mistakes were trying to raise humidity I opened the bator a few times tying to put wet sponges and more water but couldn't get humidity up. I finally got it up to 75% by putting a humidfier next to incubator where it pulls fresh air making sure it didn't raise the temprature.

That said I can really use some advice on how to help my chickens hatch, Im sure they are wrapped its been 24 hours with little progress but I see movement and hear chirping.

thanks in advance

well I read a bunch of previous posts on wrapped chickens and we went ahead and unwrapped them and they seem to be thriving now, they are jumping around and chirping loud. How long should I keep them in the bator?
