one of my new hens started laying!!!

Well, one of my new hens started laying! My husband and I would like to show our 3 yr old daughter about sustainable living. We garden and now have 4 hens....an Astralorp (which is laying now and will readily let my 3 yr old carry her around), an Aracauna, a Barred Rock, and a Laced-wing Wyandotte. They are all 18-25 weeks old and purchased off of Craig's list from the sweetest lady about 2 months ago. My 12 yr old dog has readily adjusted to the chickens and the chickens have adjusted to the 3 yr old. We built a coop ourselves and spent nearly a month getting it ready. The chickens have been a happy addition to our family. We should have done this years ago.

Starting them young is the best. My daughter ( now 24) can butcher a chicken (or hog) faster then me.

And it taste so much better than store bought.
