One of my SS hens is sick! HELP PLEASE

You could place her on a heating mat if you have one, not directly, cover with some towels, or warm some towels in the dryer and put her on that. Try to increase the humidity around her by using another towel soaked in hot water and wrung out and placed in a plastic bag. Or you could try running the hot water in your bathroom and closing the door to create steam. This warm moist envoronment should her her to relax.

Best wishes

I am subscribing to this post because I am very curious about the outcome.

Good luck, my RIR loves the spa treatment, especially if I put some cheerios next to the tub. (i wouldnt do that until you figure this out.)

sorry, what is a SS hen?
and while I am asking, what does DH mean when people refer to spouse?

Good news! This morning she is way more perky and is eating well and has her tail feathers up! There was no discharge I could find unless she ate it. She also is talking to me! Yesterday she was very gloomy and quiet. Maybe it was gas or indigestion?

We'll see what happens today and if she seems OK, I'm putting her back with the flock.r

Update. She is so perky I took her down to the flock. In the bottom of the cage was a big long greenish brown "cat like" turd.

She was constipated. DUH!

(Thank God........)

If this was constipation, then what you were seeing was probably stool from higher in the digestive tract leaking around the hard clump of stool.

We didn't ask that you answer the questions in the sticky at the beginning of this forum when first replying to this thread. If you had told us the details of what you feed them, someone might have guessed this was the problem. Usually someone does ask for these details. Lesson learned.

I'm glad your hen is better.

For all concerned about what I was feeding:

Purina Layena, lettuce scraps, tomato pieces, apple slices with grit and oyster shell in a separate container. BTW any "scraps" I feed in human grade good, not waste.

Once in a while I toss in some hay (they are on straw bedding)
