I have 11 hens and one Roo all mixed breeds. They just started laying this weekend, but I am not sure yet who is and who is not laying only four eggs so far and one had a soft shell. yesterday morning my fav little hen (Penny)was acting strange and hiding in the corner. I picked her up and sat her by the feeder and she sluggishly ate a bit. She kept squinting her eyes and kept her neck down. she went out but just stood in the corner sort of sleeping. today she was out when I went to check on them but she is still acting shy and squinty. poo is normal and she has no signs of injury. She is eating and drinking but not as much as normal. What should I do? My husband wants to kill her, but I am hoping she will get better. she only started acting funny yesterday.
However the day before yesterday I noticed a bad wound on the back of one of my other hens neck, it is about the size of a half dollar and looks pretty bad but she seems fine and it does not seem infected. I have been watching it to make sure the others aren't pecking her or for infection.
