ohhhhhhh thats wild. i searched for so long if silkies could get not have wattles and couldnt find anything! thats wild, thank you so much!Hate to burst your bubble but unless it’s on the side and the other died off that’s just skin, bearded birds don’t have wattles most the time and that’s the skin where the beard grows (my EE for example)View attachment 3877687
They can. Some silkies are bearded, and some are notohhhhhhh thats wild. i searched for so long if silkies could get not have wattles and couldnt find anything! thats wild, thank you so much!
i actually think her beard is gone because the old owner would trim her feathers back. they said she was alone cause shed get picked on by her other birds. but im gonna try to incorporate her into the flock soon, idk if she was just putting her in the coop while everyone was awake or at night time to confuse them. but i just got her yesterday from them and didnt realize how much they cut on her till i got her in my hands and felt all the cut off feathers on her.I think her beard probably got picked out by feather picking. That usually grows back eventually if the picking stops.
What other breeds do you have in your flock? Are they used to crested birds?i actually think her beard is gone because the old owner would trim her feathers back. they said she was alone cause shed get picked on by her other birds. but im gonna try to incorporate her into the flock soon, idk if she was just putting her in the coop while everyone was awake or at night time to confuse them. but i just got her yesterday from them and didnt realize how much they cut on her till i got her in my hands and felt all the cut off feathers on her.
i have an orpington, what i think is an olive egger, 2 BLR wyandottes, and 4 black australorps. i had an easter egger that i had to rehome after he was found to be a rooster. so no crested yet, is that gonna be a problem? What other breeds do you have in your flock? Are they used to crested birds?
It is best to quarantine new birds for at least 3-4 weeks prior to adding them to an existing flock to monitor for any possible contagious illnesses and treat them for internal and external parasites.
It often is as chickens that have not been raised with crested birds tend to ostracise and bully them leaving the crested ones often seriously injured and sometimes even dead.so no crested yet, is that gonna be a problem?
that would make sense. i dont plan on letting her out of my sight when i do introduce them. ive found little bald spots on her crest already and she doesnt look to have mites so i think she was plucked by birds she was housed with before and i dint want to cause her more trauma that shes already clearly enduredIt often is as chickens that have not been raised with crested birds tend to ostracise and bully them leaving the crested ones often seriously injured and sometimes even dead.
