I got these three laying hens about a month and a half ago. My cochin started laying about two weeks ago and is now 14days/14eggs good girl! But the other 2 have not layed an egg yet. 1 is a buff Rock and the other is a blue andulasian (sp? sorry) and I cant figure out why?

I asked my Mom about it because she had chickens growing up, she said I just need to get more chickens

Any suggestions?

They all seem really health.

On a side note. A couple of my freinds that have chickens told me not to get the cochin because she wouldn't lay more than 3-4 eggs a week. HA! She showed them!

We're in a similar situation. We picked up 5 hens about a month ago. We got 5 eggs the first day. Since then we're getting one a day... from either one or both of our Marans'. I'm hoping its just the move and all stress of getting used to a new place which is very different from their old place (they're city chickens now).

Are you sure all the eggs are hers? I have a cochin that usually goes 3 days then takes a day off. well I noticed i had gotten like 5 days of eggs with no break. Today I found out that one of my other hens is laying an egg that looks almost exactally like hers. So they were not all her eggs.

Well I am very sure they are all hers because I see her lay them at about 10:30 am every day. Since she will only lay under my sage bush, lol. Never had one in the nest box yet.

Several questions come to mind - - -
1st since she is laying them in the bush - - -Perhaps she is trying to going broody. That would make her more determined to get the egg laying thing done.

2nd if the two none layers are older by a couple of years - - - they may not lay as regularly. They also may of had a harder time of dealing with the Stress of moving.

I think if the one has only been laying for 2 weeks, it may be to early to say there is a problem. This may just be the natural transitional time.

My friend just introduced 4 new birds to her flock. Guess what - - - her established flock has quit laying. She was getting 12 eggs a day and is down to 3 a day. All from the stress of 4 new birds being introduced. It has been two weeks and the egg laying has not picked up yet.
