Only using 1 nestbox?

So we built this lovely nest box with the top being for them to sit unfortunately almost all the hens choose to fight over the one my salmon faverolle is in front of. Can anybody explain this?

Ours do that too. I've boarded a couple of them up, and that did throw them for a loop and helped a little bit. You could try that to see.

That's what they do lol. If you block that one off they'll all want to lay together in another. If my ladies are fighting over a box I'll take out a few eggs and put them in another box. Some will pick the other box. This only works for 1 day haha! They just want to lay where the eggs already are.

Definitely a chicken thing. My girls will yell at each other to get out of the box that they want I have even had two of them sharing the box because one of them couldn't wait for their turn.

If you would prefer they use the other nest boxes you can try putting golf balls or fake eggs in them.

They are doing it now and the scream is just too intense. Those that can not piled on top of the hens that already jammed into the nest box standing outside screaming. Oh the screaming is just too much.

Silly chickens. Yes try putting golf balls or fake eggs in every nest. If fake eggs, mark them some way so they don't fool you, lol!
