SO it's been a long struggle for my sick hen. No strength, losing weight, no appetite- but thirsty, diarrhea and squishy crop. I brought her into the bathroom of a vacant cottage I usually rent for the night and I was watching her- she's on antibiotics and anti-fungals as a guess from my vet, and is not doing too hot. Thinking she might die tonight, though I've thought that every night all week. So she's standing up for awhile, straining to poo and when she does I see disgusting little black legged bugs swimming around in it!

Little black multi legged bugs swimming in her poop!!!!! I know she has mites, and I sprayed her for them but they're still there. The vet said mites would be secondary to her problems, but could it be a horrendous mite infestation that has weakened her this much? Why are they IN her poop? Could they have crawled up her butt from hanging around her poop shoot? Or is this some kind of hideous parasite zapping the life from my girl that I can't find any info on???

HELP!!!

I'm so sicked out, I threw all my clothes in the wash and swear I feel little black bugs crawling up my own butt! HELP!!! Somebody with any idea, please help soon. If there is a medication for it I'll buy it tomorrow instead of making her take these harsh meds that might not even help!

I keep thinking she's gonna die but then she glares at me and pecks at something and makes it through the night, again. I gotta know if this is it!

I'm so sorry, but it may very well be! I only know of one thing that could save her and that's Diatomaceous Earth. She need's to eat/drink some ASAP! It will kill everything that is living inside her. I would probably dust her in ti too! For the mites!

Does it really? I've read varying accounts. I don't have any food grade, I'll have to wait until tomorrow. But have you ever heard of such a thing? Can little bugs actually live IN the intestinal tract? This all began with weakness and diarrhea, and I am so FRUSTRATED that vets, even avian ones, seem to take chickens seriously!

I know,it is frustrating! That is actually one of the first things I would have done if I were a vet and spent all that time in school! I'll bet they charged you a lot ,too! And yes as gross as it is bugs can ,indeed, live in the intestinal tract!

Just a few that talk about the various benefits of DE.

I have never heard of something managing to make it through an intestinal tract like that before; but, there is a world of things I still have yet to learn.

I will have to research it too and try to find out exactly what it is called. Did she eat anything or do anything different before all this happened?
