I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!! My hen just laid her first egg!!!!!!!! It's so perfect and brown and small. I just LOVE it!!! Here's the story:
I just got my bottom braces today. UUUUUuGGGhhh. How gross is that??? Anyway, that was pretty painful, and I've been dreading it forever. Thankfully it went by quickly. So after that, I came home (after arguing with my mom to pleeeease let me have some frozen yogurt, which I didn't get.

) and thought I should check on my chickens. I walked out, and bam! The first thing I saw was a little brown egg lying in the dirt! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! I was totally screaming my head off in excitement.(I wonder what the neighbors thought?

) I ran screaming into the house and my mom was yelling,"What!!!??? Who died???" I screamed some more, and then showed her my beautiful little egg. YAY!!!! She made me go over to one of our chicken-loving neighbors and show them the egg.

That's pretty much it. This all happened like 10 minutes ago. I think i might be overreacting, but it's so exciting! These are my first-ever chickens, and the only other pet I've ever had(and still have) is a cat named Whiskers. I also live in a heavily populated suburban neighborhood. I've only seen one other chicken-keeper here. So these chickens are really awsome!!! The only sad thing is that I have no idea which chicken laid the egg. i don't know what an egg song sounds like. Peach, my BO has been squawking like a maniac for the last couple of days. I'm guessing it was her, since she is the biggest. I don't think it was Embelia, because she's an EE, and I know some EE lay brown eggs, but she hasn't really made ANY squawking sounds. Pepper my BR is a possibility, because she has been squawking more frequently, like Peach. Definitely not Flor, because she is in the chicken tractor resting after her fight with Peach. Hmmmmmmm.......... Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually.(if you have any ideas on who it would be, please post. And if you have any suggestions on how to find out please tell me.Thanks!) Grrrrr... I'm also mad because we haven't finished their brand new coop with better nesting boxes. I was oping I could move the girls in there before they started to lay. It's almost finished though. Oh, and the pics will come soon.

I think your right. The one doing all the squacking. She's the one!

My EE is pretty quite. But I'm guessing too that she will lay green or blue.

Yeah, again!

Congratulations!

I had been hearing that you could feel the space between their hips. A wider space means the hen's been laying. No space means she's not. I had NO idea what these people were talking about (is this a space? is that it?) until.... one of my girls laid. Now I know what they mean. lol

Congrats! I have pullets and I just got an EE hen. They told me she would only lay every other day but she has been laying every day for me! Maybe shes happier. Her blue eggs are very exciting to find. I just learned, however, that my 3 and 4 year olds did not know that the eggs they have been eating come from chickens. They are mortified! lol... They wanna take every egg back to the chicken to hatch it... mind you we dont have any roos so no chicks can hatch...lol... Kids are so funny
