Ooops! BIG rattlesnake

I had a memorable moment this afternoon. I keep my recycling in trash cans beside the trash cans with my chicken food. I'd decided it was time to turn in the recyclables and was emptying out the trash cans when I slapped the empty can right on top of a very large -and very po'd! - diamondback rattlesnake. Fortunately he was on the otherside of the can with the can between us. He must have been there this morning when I accessed the two other cans to feed the chickens. I guess I didn't disturb him that time.

I think I'll do the recycling tomorrow.

I hike a mountain not far from my home regularly and this evening on my way down I came very close to stepping on a large (at least 4 foot) diamond back rattle snake. I think I scared him just as much as he scared me. He slithered off quickly.
