I feel like such an idiot! I have left most of the chicken care to my husband since we had our very clingy baby 3.5 mo ago. The eggs had not been collected in weeks, I'm vegan and don't eat them so I could care less if they were not collected. Now a 5 YO Easter Egger (who hasn't laid in a year) is now broody. I have a big rooster, 7 hens and a guinea hen, all rescues. This is their forever home. I'm trying to figure out what to do. I found out a few days ago she's been siting on eggs for 1-2 weeks. I am totally freaking out! What am I gonna do with more roosters!?! I did not want unsexed babies! I can't destroy the eggs if their are babies inside! It is super hard to find good forever homes for roosters:( We have 2 unfenced acres. We don't want to fence it. We have a small 7'x14' pen I can keep them in until big enough but I'm so afraid we will have more roosters an ours will kill them:( Sorry for my rant! Just very upset... Can anyone provide a safe forever home for a rooster in MI!?! Ugh!

If the thought of having chicks disturbs you as much as it sounds, it may be best to either give away the eggs (yes, they CAN be moved from one incubator to another) or to just take a chance on the broody hen being a good mama and hatching out her chicks. Then try to sell the chicks when they hatch before you can determine if they are pullets or cockerels.

I don't mind babies, just can't have another roo. Our first chickens were a broody BSL hen and her adopted five 3 week old babies. She raised them with out human help in March. So hoping this hen will care for them the same. It's hard to find somewhere that will keep them until their natural death. I couldn't imagine my babies ending up someone's supper:( Once I find out how many Roos, I'll have to find them homes. I'm so so frustrated right now. I should've made sure this didn't happen...

Is it possible for a previously broody hen to be friendly to the babies or would she attack them if not her own?
