Open air coops

I live in Salt Lake City Utah and have been doing a lot of research on coop design. I love the idea of an open air coop but I'm not sure about how the chickens would do in this climate. Does anyone have any experience and or wisdom here in Utah with open air coops?

No -- but if you have access to some of the older literature about chicken keeping, you will find they were often kept in open air shelters. Here is one more modern version, not cheap to build, but interesting for the ideas:
