open wound on hen! need advise!!

Aloha from Hawaii,
My RIR chicken has had this same kind of wound on her back from Mr. Roo too, so glad to see this topic discussed in such detail. I'm going to get some Blue Coat but my oh my........what is a chicken saddle? Can I just make something that will stay on and keep Mr. Roo from digging in? Not sure I can catch him to trim his nails as was suggested. My chickens although they do sleep in a chicken house (more like a palace actually), they are free range.
The wound on the chicken has been there for months now, not infected but raw. It's time to step into action here.
Thank you all!
Aloha

I've never given any of my birds a shot. And, the only time that I have used antibiotics was when I thought they were getting an infection (or was bad enough to warrant it from the beginning). For roo cuts, I usually stick with cleaning it well and using neosporin. If she smells funky or oozingwith some nasty, pus or something, then I'd definitely give antibiotics (though I prefer water soluble over shots just 'cause it's easier to me).
