We've been having a rat problem, so DH and I put a light in the coop hoping it would deter the rat or rats from coming in the coop at night.

It is with great trepidation that I go out to the coops each morning, as I have already lost 7 to this rat.

This morning I go out to the coop.................................

and I found NO rats or evidence of a rat being in the coop at all BUT..........................................

I found our six week old kitten curled up with my Mille Fleurs!

I am guessing he snuck in there last night when I was closing the coops up for the night. All the chooks were safe, and Marmalade was purring up a storm!

Yea I was thinking the same thing regarding the rat/mice issue, but cats are natural predators and I worry that he might grow up and eat my chooks

I have a 1 year old calico who is an avid hunter, but she never bothers my chooks. I took her in the pen with me from the time she was 6 weeks old. She doesn't even bother the chicks when they run in front of her, but on the other hand, I have seen her bring in mice and chipmunks and ground moles.

I just don't know that I would fully trust a cat/kitten in my coop! I for sure wouldn't have intentionally left him in there if I had seen him go in!

Aww, too cute!

Our cats never bothered our chickens when they were free ranging, and they sometimes they come into the pen with me or my SO. They've never once tried to bother the chickens, or the ducks. Heck, my cats even eat with our pig.
