Hi,
We are ordering 100 pullets soon from Mt. Healthy. We are raising them to resell (our daughter sings and reads to the entire flock and tells us which ones we are keeping for egg laying! LOL)
Dual purpose birds do best for us. These will be maturing just in time for cold weather here in SC so we need good winter egg layers for the pullets from the dual purpose breeds.
We've had some recommendations on different breeds, but it's so hard to choose between the breeds! We just started this in April to help supplement our income so this will be our first winter experience. We had our own feed and seed business for many years, but due to medical reasons had to give it up last fall. (We currently have quite a few and 6 different breeds that will be our first batch and ready for this fall).
Wondering if anyone has ordered Mt. Healthy's heavy breed special and if so, would value your opinion! Were you pleased? Is it better to stay with certain breeds for winter layers and wait til spring to mix it up? Experience &/or Opinions welcomed! SO DARN FUN AND ADDICTING TO TALK CHICKEN!! We have learned SO much in the last couple of months and one of our main sources is BYC, of course!
(My oldest daughter's boss asked me about our chickens (he has some) and she ROLLED her eyes, "OMG! DON'T get her started!!" and laughed! (she is 20 yo and we are slowly but surely converting her and her husband our youngest assures us!) LOL
Thanks!
Amanda
