I have incubated several times now in a styrofoam ice chest. Now i would like to custum build my own. Thinking that i now have figured out what it takes to incubate correctly. I would love to be more sucsessful in the percentage of eggs that do hatch. I am going to have all the bells and whistles. I would love opinions on the best choice on the material for constructing my project.

I would say first it depends on the amount of eggs you want to hatch and size of the incubator you want. My incubator is small and made out of a cooler. It's easy to clean because it's made of hard plastic.

Plastic is the easiest to clean of the three building materials, but maybe not the easiest to work with. Its hard to fasten together if you need to cut and fit pieces. Styrofoam will have the best insultation properies, but harbors bacteria like there is no tommorrow. It is very easily damaged ,if dropped or something heavy is placed on top. Wood is probably the most durable and easiest to work with, provides better insulation than plastic and is easy to disinfect and clean. Plus it just plain looks better. My vote is if you are going to build something, build it to last, look good and function properly, build it with wood.

Good call. Thats what i was thinking. Should the wood be stained or varnished? I will have to investagate.
