hi guys, i’ve been letting my ducks roam around my deck as a way to let them get a feel on their surroundings. is it okay if i let them in the grass now? they love putting things in their mouths and i don’t want then to eat dirt or grass and get sick. what do you guys think?

As long as you provide them with grit, yes, you can let them eat some grass/dirt.

i haven’t used grit since i’ve got them, typically they’d eat and just use their water to get it down. is that okay?

Most birds find small rocks or pebble in the dirt and they use that as their gift. Some people provide additional grit for their birds. I don’t but you can if you like.

Depends on your soil composition if it will have rocks or small grit, to be safe provide them some grit, I don't provide grit, but I have a sandy creek that the duckling often visit. Yes, its normal for them to wash the grit down with water.

Chick grit is not expensive I just put a small custard bowl in the brooder an they use it as needed.,

Let them off the deck. They will find what they need foraging. Give a bowl of water on the lawn and they will have fun.
