Hi, I'm interested in hearing your options on the temperaments of different goose breeds based on your experiences. I just want to make sure that if I do get more geese some day I don't make the mistake of unknowingly get geese that are often more aggressive or loud than others. I know that each goose is different but I also know that there are some similarities of temperament that are more common in some breeds.

Anyway..Thank you!

I've had African. They are loud and boisterous year round. My buff American and pilgrim are fairly docile outside of the breeding season. During the breeding season they all can be loud. Thankfully that only runs a few months. Generally March to the end of June here. My pilgrim have been a bit more aggressive to other poultry species. I would highly recommend the buff American for a beginning goose. I'm trying embden this year. Hopefully they are also good.

We got a Chinese (Kinney) and a Toulouse (Rosie) as goslings on April 2024. Kinney started laying at 20 weeks and lays every other day. Kinney is full of personality and seems to be more dominant then Rosie. Rosie has not started laying and is pretty docile. They really love my family and love to be with us. We much rather raise goslings over ducks. We love our geese and plan to get more and sell our ducks. I think both of these breeds work really well together and balance each other out. We are guessing Rosie is a girl due to her temperament and she has a short neck. We will really won't know for sure until she is fully matured.
