Chirping
Hello, been awhile since I’ve posted a thread, but our hens are over 2 years old now and we’re considering ordering some baby chicks this spring.
The thing is, we live in Northern California where the temperature averages from 100-115 degrees in the summer.
I was hoping to get some new breeds of chickens and was considering the following:
- Lavender Orpingtons
- Buff Brahmas
- Blue Laced Red Wyandottes
- Cuckoo Marans
- Anconas
- Speckled Sussexes
- Golden Campines
I’m also planning to order more Salmon Faverolles, but we already have some that seem to hold up well to the warmth.
What do y’all think of this selection for the warm weather?
There is lots of trees and our chickens freerange. The coop is also pretty open and we hose down the dirt and add ice to the water every day.
I just want to make sure we’re not losing any to heat, what with the few that get taken by coyotes every now and then.
