Does anyone think this may have been a double yolk egg? The chick hatched with the normal depleated yolk sac attached and also this full sac that looks like a yolk sac. It has burst, the chick is doing fine so far. I have left it in the incubator, hoping the humidity keeps the attached piece of sac wet so it can drain and hopefully go away. Any ideas as to what might have happened or what we can expect to happen? Might it be its stomach? It doesn't seem to be in distress.

looks like it got larger? Looks like a regular yolk sac. I have had a couple, they are usually fine.... if it lost the yolk though it will definitely need food and water sooner than normal

oh, ok, I didn't think of that. I will have to put her in a little box by herself right away then and see if I can get her to eat and drink. Thanks. I will move our other babies to a bigger box and put this little one in the small box by herself.

My husband just said he thinks it's its intestines? He just took a close look at it. The sac got larger, then burst and is now a bloody glob dragging behind it. He didn't see it when it first hatched so he didn't see it before it burst.

I had to wait for a couple of days to make sure mine was ok. I did keep it separate so the other chicks wouldn't peck at it and open up the abdomen. intestines look more wormy imo.... just wait it out and you will know soon enough. Just don't worry as there really is nothing else you can do, good luck

We also had a chick die that was with the Momma Hen in the coop, it got caught in a small area it couldn't get out of.

It's been a rough day on the Farm.

Of course I panic and want to bring the chicks into the brooder out of the coop but my husband wants to leave them with their Momma. I just feel they'd be more secure in the brooder but then they wouldn't get the love of their Momma Hen.
