A wild Quail made a nest about 15' from house & 5' from upper Deck. She has sat on 10 eggs for a LONG time and dealt with tractor noise, remodel noise Hot Weather High Winds etc etc. I have tried to disturb as little as possible but still work on house. Seems like it has been way too long though? Would love to see chicks hatch but eggs can't be "good" after 5 weeks rite? Does she not know eggs aren't going to hatch? I am amazed how much work she has gone thru to hatch young but now it just seems like she's torturing herself for no reason? I feel like I would be helping her to kick her off nest and destroy eggs. Should I do anything? or just leave alone? NE WA State Thanks for advice.

Please help me help this Wild Quail Hen! I can't stand watching her "panting" for hours in the heat! If 21 days is about normal for hatching then these eggs can't be good. It's been 4-5 WEEKS. Do I kick her off this nest or just let her quit in the fall!? First time I ever looked at her she flew away & I thought crap she's never coming back. ( I almost stepped on her) I have pretty much not worried about pounding nails & other loud work but now she is just NOT budging which is amazing BUT I feel like she's torturing herself for no reason. Anyone? Bueller?

First, contact your local wildlife rescue. They will know more about wild quail than most.

If you can't contact the wildlife rescue, you might try taking the eggs away. She can't sit on eggs that aren't there, and will hopefully go off to live her life.

Valley quail take 24 to 25 days to hatch! Being 'wild' she wouldn't have started setting until she had the entire clutch layed.
If you take the eggs away she will most likely give up and stop being broody.

Thanks for replies. I guess I'll not worry. Weather has cooled down for awhile and deer haven't stepped on nest. Loud field mower & construction noise doesn't seem to bother her. One Tough Q Hen!
