Last night i encounterd 3 opposums in my back yard fairly medium size. but since i love my chicks and hens and roos so much my coop is anti opposum with the strongest chicken wire but im still scared that someway it will get to them what can i do to get rid of them with little to no money. THX!

I have had many possums too but they have never been able to get my chickens or have they ever tried to eat the chickens, now raccoons are a different story. But I would just scare them off and if you really want to get rid of them kill them. But we have had a couple of possums come up and eat the cat food, we just scared them off by screaming and yelling or we would shot the 22 (not at them) they would take off and not returned... Never had to kill a possum to protect my chickens. I believe they go after dead things, I could be wrong.. or you could trap them and move them else where. They could be coming around eating or looking for crack corn or chicken feed.. not necessary your chickens.

I shot my airsot pistol at it and the mother ran after me i think i shot the kid but it was self defense because they were invading my yard but we do habe chicken feed outside and alot of plants but do you think it can go through chicken wire and plywood or no i covered the opening with an additional carbosrd box and some buckets so my roo wont go crazy at 3am

AWWWE poor rooster, OH my gosh, I guess the mother would come after you to protect her young, did you end up killing the kid? I would think it would sting but not kill him? I don't think they can get threw wire but not sure about digging, they maybe able to dig. I know a raccoon will climb, bite and dig to get to the chickens but I don't think possums are that aggressive. Hopefully since you shot at them they will just move on and find a different place.

it surely stung him i dont like to kill animals but i dont like my animals getting killed either

We had a possum that kept coming around. i kept chasing it off. Then one morning came out to find it stuck in the aviary netting over top one of the hutches we keep on the patio. That was it. My husband killed it with a Daisy pump action pellet gun. He had to shoot it a bunch of times, and it was a big mess. But that was just too close for comfort.

At least you gave it a chance and it didnt listen you had every right to kill it and so did your husband i heard some noises last night it was probably them but didnt see it whats sucks is that my chikens roost while looking at the back of the coop instead of watching the door
