I have not been able to find light sussex in my area and want to order some from Sandhill Preservation for next year. I have to order a minimum of 25, and wanted to know if anyone in New Hampshire, or surrounding states would be interested in buying the extras. I will only want around 10, but before I send them a check for the 25, I was hoping to be able to find homes for the extras. Does anyone think I will have a problem finding homes for them?? The chicks will cost $5.00 a piece. Let me know if your interested. They are sold out for 2009....Carol

I looked at Sandhill too, the only thing I didn't like was having to order stuff soooo far ahead of time (and pay for it!) When do orders for next year need to be in? I'm assuming they are sold out for this year already..

I received their catalog, and basically when your check gets there with your selection, you are placed in order as it was received. So if I send a check for light sussex, and 5 other people sent their checks in (for light sussex) before mine, I would be number 6 in line. They only hatch out so many per breed at a time. I think that for the Light Sussex breed, they hatch out only 10 at a time, so I would get two or three separate orders, and they may come a week apart. I know it is confusing....cause I only want light sussex, and only about 10, but need to buy 25. I figured if I ordered all light sussex, I could find good homes for them, because they are very rare in NH.....Anywhooooo that's my plan.

Ooops forgot to answer your question....I believe you send your check in anytime during the season/year, to get your place in line....

Sandhill is already taking orders for 2010. If you want light Sussex send your order in now!

Oh yes, I forgot. You can only order a maximum of 10 light Sussex per order. You can't order 25 at once. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Well...I just read the catalog again, and it does state on page 4, last chapter, and I quote,

"You can order as few as 1 of a breed. If you want more than the maximum number, you will need to place two different orders from two different hatches (including the equivalent of 25 chicks for each order).

Oh...well, I guess I will have to order some white orpingtons, and maybe some blue orpingtons as soon as I see how many I get out of my hatch that is in the bator as I write this...they are peeping and rockin'-and-a-rollin' in there!!! I guess I will be overrun with chickies....Is that possible????
