Organic feed sources?

Where do you buy your organic feed? I can't find any dealers in Florida, closest one is Countryside in VA. Shipping for a 50# bag is $16.

I read the other thread about why organic..man did I find some kindred spirits! I only buy organic eggs, butter and milk. At $4 a dozen, I did the math and got my own chickens!

I do not trust Genetically Modified grains,plants or animals or cloned anything and would like to raise my girls with grains as Mother Nature made them..no chemicals, no lab-experiments. Better for them, better for me and better for the planet.

Sound like you eat organic, so throw them your left overs and any trimings. Let them free ranger on your lawn or where ever they can get to some bugs and worms, all the good things free range chickens get.
What about your water, city or well? People worry so much about things being organic, which is fine. I grow most of my own food and raise or shoot 95% of my meat. What about the air? There is more chemicals in the air than there is in any bag of feed. How do you raise anything organic without filtering the air? I am never going to tell anyone that organic is not better for them, but I will tell anyone it is not possible to raise or grow anything organic. Not if it is in the air we breathe or the water we drink. Take your water to any lab for testing, they wil tell you what is in it, same goes for the air.

I buy my organic feed locally, which is upstate NY and unreasonable for you in FL. If I were starting in a new location, I'd ask the healthfood stores what organizations they'd contact - try NOFA in the NE, GreenPages, CoOp America, just google it. Good luck!

I order from Countryside Naturals. It's expensive to only order 1 or 2 bags, but if you can order over 500# the shipping cost per bag goes down tremendously (see if you can find 10+ others in FL who would be willing to split a shipment with you). My last order came to a little over $9 per bag for shipping -- and the actual shipping cost won't go up when it's delivered on a pallet, so the more you can order the lower the cost per bag.
