My friend is trying to find organic chickens. She tells me that I need to find chicks from a line of organic hens. She also herd that organic hens don't start laying until they are 3 years old. I am not sure where she is getting the info from.
My theory is if I get day old chick and start them on organic feed they will be "organic" . I am not looking to get the hens certified, I just want healthy eggs and meat.

what is your input on this....

She has eroneous info.
Regardless of their feed they start laying about 20 weeks.
Why would organic give worse results or why would anyone feed organic if their results were so horrific?

When working with chickens - use common sense.

I like your theory.

I am serious. My friend is a little crazy, I am trying to disprove her.

They are organic as long as you only feed organic or free range from day one. They lay the same as any other chicken.

Organic chickens aren't a breed.

Just get your day olds and raise them organically. You're gonna do fine, hehe. ANy chicken that takes 3 years to lay would get its head chopped off in most flocks!
